Glenwood House
Description
Where are we?
The Garden Route is a picturesque stretch of coastline in South Africa that is world-renowned for its beauty and wonderful natural treasures. It is a bustling tourist attraction that offers luscious forests filled with delicate ferns, plentiful streams, numerous natural wonders and long, white beaches stretching seemingly endlessly along the coast.
The Garden Route offers a multitude of opportunities for educational institutions and its pupils. It is an area that completely redefines teaching and where all learning does not necessarily have to take place within the four walls of a classroom
Mission statement
To help our pupils unlock their full potential by means of optimal development in the cognitive, physical, social, emotional and spiritual facets of their personality through the creation of a structure that is characterized by traditional values, discipline, pride and happiness.
Educational Approach
Glenwood House is a school that adds value to the lives of pupils from grade 000 to 12. It is an independent, co-educational school that offers holistic education, which helps a pupil develop all-round skills and abilities, catering for the body, mind, social and emotional development and well-being, and for the spiritual development of each and every pupil.
We believe that effective education cannot take place in an undisciplined environment and firm but constructive discipline is maintained. We do not allow individuals to spoil the educational experience for others and safeguard the development of all pupils.
We teach our children to realize their blessings and to be mindful of the misfortune of others, to care about people around them. Glenwood is involved in various community service projects and we endeavor to add value to the upliftment of those who are less fortunate than we are.
Glenwood teaches environmental awareness and is an Eco School.
Education does not only take place within the four walls of a classroom. Very often important life lessons are learnt outside the boundaries of a school. We recognize this facet of education and teachers are encouraged to arrange educational activities such as tours, camps, outings, practical excursions, visits to companies, hiking trips, community service outings, etc. to complement the academic product.
Glenwood House promotes the family unit and teaches pupils to respect and appreciate parents and family members. For this reason we arrange events that the whole family can enjoy and in this way do our bit to encourage families to bond and prosper.
Glenwood pupils are ultimately prepared for the exit examinations of the Independent Examinations Board (IEB), a qualification which is internationally portable. The IEB qualification is the choice of almost all the top private schools in South Africa.
Our school supports nation-building and our pupils are taught to be proudly South African.
